Description: Vegetative stalks tall (about 9 feet) with white reticulation prominent on leaf sheaths and bracts.
Petiole and ligule short with pulvinus absent. Rhizome supported by stilt roots.
Flowers are red and tubular and found in cones of tightly spaced, closed red bracts on the terminus of short basal stalks. The cones contain liquid that may deter predation.
Ecology/Habitat: This species is very common along open riversides and embankments in the lowland forest at Mt. Kinabalu. It is the most frequently observed ginger species in the park.
