Description: Very short plant (less than 3 feet tall) with the characteristic pulvinus and flower cone borne on a basal stalk from the rhizome of the genus. Flowers are yellow with red, closed, dense bracts. Petiole absent, with thick white hair on the leaf undersides.

Ecology/Habitat: This species is a very popular ornamental, and not native to Borneo. However, its horticultural use makes it widespread in the region.
