Etlingera eliator





Description: Very similar to species 26 (another Etlingera), with leafy stalks above 9 feet tall, long ligules, flower positioned on the end of basal shoot, and long, dense bracts enclosing the bottom of the inflorescence and shorter bracts around the flowers. Bracts are pink with dark red tubular flowers. However, unlike species 26, the petioles and peduncle are longer and the flowers and bracts are a darker color. The flower lip is outlined in yellow.


Distribution: Sepilok


Ecology/Habitat: Found in the Sepilok Botanical Gardens. Species distribution ranges throughout Borneo, but it is still under dispute whether the species is native or an early introduction.
