Description: Shoots about 3 ft tall, with terminal leaf and terminal leaf sheath bright red.
Leaves long with short drip tips. Leaf underside hairy.
Ligule short, petiole and pulvinus absent. Flowers red and tubular, spirally arranged in a tightly spaced infloresences positioned on side shoots.
Only one flowering side shoot present on vegetative stalk, emerging from a leaf axil close to the base. No bracts present. Fruit round and white, visible at the base of the flowers in plants with nearly mature seeds.
Distribution: Lambir, Deramakot
Ecology/Habitat: Found in both along flooded riverbanks in open canopy and along drier embankments in secondary growth forests.
