What’s on my Palm Pilot

Palm pilots are now fantastic laptop substitutes. I was an ‘early adopter’ (reasonably early: Palm III) but lost interest while there was no way to backup work (I did resort to beaming work to a second unit, but this is cumbersome). Now with SD cards and much faster processors, the dream of palmtop computing is really here. My Palm gets almost as much tweaking as my laptop and desktop, and I thought I’d showcase the software that I’ve found to be best, after much trial and error.

Hardware

  • PalmOne Tungsten E: A pinnacle on the never-ending value for money road: 16 Mb RAM, color, sound, fast, and < $200
  • Palm Wireless Keyboard: Compact, and should survive a few palm model upgrades, due to it’s generic IR link to the machine
  • SD Card: 128 M minimum – it’s the MP3s that gobble up the memory.
  • Canon BJC-50
