Research Interests:
I’m just starting a permanent position as assistant professor at the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, in Bogotá, Colombia, where I am from. After doing a PhD in seedling ecology, I did a post-doc in the Chazdon lab, at the University of Connecticut (USA), and then a teaching post-doc at the Universidad de los Andes, in Bogotá.
I am particularly interested in understanding the different forces determining the structure and diversity of species-rich plant communities. My research focuses on plant regeneration in both pristine and degraded landscapes. Because regeneration determines the potential area of tree spatial distribution, it presumably has a critical impact on the fate on individuals, and on the dynamics of populations and communities. This makes natural regeneration crucially important for understanding processes ranging from fragmentation to climate change and restoration ecology.
