I have decided to take an alternative route in academia, having turned down one firm assistant professorship, and a number of serious offers. The primary cost in this decision is not having `official' graduate students and postdocs of my own. However, I am finding many ways to advise and teach, and am very pleased to consider requests for input and oversight. I am available to stand as an external examiner on graduate student committees. I have extensive experience teaching both in the classroom and in the field, and will be teaching a Harvard Summer School Field Course to Borneo in the summer of 2007.
